Bringing Out the Best in People

The following article may be useful for parents with young kids or parents-to-be.

Extracted from the book "Bringing Out the Best in People: How to Enjoy Helping Others Excel" by Alan Loy McGinnis

The need for direction

The hands-off approach does not work at home any more than in the classroom or in the office. Most studies show that parents who run a tight ship and who are fairly strict produce the more secure children. The kids may complain about the rules and they may rebel, but they will grow up happier, more ambitious, and better adjusted. If you care about the members of your family, then you care about how successful they are and you devote time and energy to helping them learn to do things well. When you are overly benevolent with your children and hand out privileges and money too freely, they may give you a hug and say, " You're super." But that hug was purchased and you're not really super. You'll feel a lot better about the hug you get when your kid is 25 and just got a promotion and comes to you and says, "Thanks for teaching me how to work."

Being Successfully Healthy

Apart from being successful in a wealthy way, being successfully healthy is also an important factor to lead a more purposeful life!

A balanced diet coupled with regular exercises may provide you with a basic dosage of a healthy lifestyle, but your body would still require a fair bit of vitamins and minerals to repair damaged body cells & tissues and to build up your immune system.

The perfect remedy is health supplements! But wait a minute - there are a thousand and one health supplements out there in the market. Which one is the safest and most suitable for you to consume? My answer is 'Nutrilite'. I would let my awesome friend, Kenneth, to share more about Nutrilite and how you can benefit the most from it in his blog 'Nutrition A to Z'.

Before that, please sit back, relax and enjoy an introductory video on 'Nutrilite: Best of Nature. Best of Science'.

Turning S.M.I.L.E.S. into Dreams

Extracted from Bill Quain's latest book "Overcoming Time Poverty":

The acronym S.M.I.L.E.S. is used to describe the stages of dreams and achievement that people seek. Here is a brief summary of those stages:

S - Survival Dreams
People want to have as much as it takes to get through the month. They can't dream about a boat if they can't pay the rent.

M - Material Dreams
People want things. That is fine, as long as they can afford them.

I - Income Dreams
Some people have dreams of making a certain amount of money. That is great, as long as they learn how to sustain that income without trading away their time.

L - Lifestyle Dreams
I sometimes ask people, "What would you do first if you have time and money?" The most popular answer is "Travel". Lifestyle is money and the time to spend it.

E - Expressive Dreams
How would you express yourself if time and money were not a problem? Would you learn to play music? Would you start a charity?

S - Spiritual Dreams
To me, the best way to serve God is to serve your fellow man. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have the time to help others? Wouldn't it be even more wonderful if you could serve people by being a great example?

People move through the dream stages in order. They start out with the lower stages - survival, material and income - and then move on to the higher levels - lifestyle, expressive and spiritual. It is a natural progression. Learn to ask people where they are now and show them how to move on.

Where are you in the dream stages? Are you looking for enough money and time to just make it through the month? Or are you at the point where you want to finish off your financial journey by showing others how to finish theirs?

Qualities of a Leader

Do you have what it takes to be a leader? During a gathering, a good friend of mine shared with me the essential qualities one must possessed in order to be a good leader, and I couldn't agree more. I'm pleased to share them with you:

1) Vision
2) Know yourself (Strengths & Weaknesses)
3) Leaders know they don't know everything
4) Willing to admit mistakes
5) Willing to change (for the better)
6) Put others before self
7) Overcome challenges and learn from failures
8) Responsible
9) Integrity
10) Persistency & Consistency
11) Build teams
12) Self-motivated
13) Mentor
14) Decisive
15) Go the extra mile
16) Help others to succeed

Looks daunting? Not at all! It may look so in the beginning, but once you identify & work on your weaknesses and improve on your strengths, you will find yourself gaining confidence in time to come!

People who face elimination

A great leader once shared with me the list of people who will be eliminated from society. I'm going to share them with you as well:

1) People who are complacent
2) People who are only good in one task
3) People who do not have the desire to learn
4) People who are 'slow' in response
5) People who work alone
6) People with low EQ
7) People who are fragile mentally
8) People with no foresight

Are you one of them? If you have fulfilled any of the above criteria or on the brink of doing so, I urge you to start doing something immediately!
